Polki, kundan, jadau: a short glossary

Three words you will see across the house, and what they actually mean.

Polki refers to uncut, unpolished stones that keep their natural form. The finish is softer and more organic than faceted stones.

Kundan is a setting technique: stones are held in place with refined metal foil pressed around them, creating the flat, framed look associated with Rajasthani jewellery.

Jadau is the broader craft of embedding stones into metal, often combining kundan work with enamel (meenakari) on the reverse.

At Hause of Asmira we use these words to describe style and silhouette. Full material specifications for every piece are published on the product page.
